Description
Antheia’s Garden is a generous floral mixed media piece. I have framed this work, 94cm (wide) and 63cm (tall) in pale wood. Antheia’s Garden is finished with a high gloss resin.
This painting would work in a living space, hallway or in a bedroom.
Antheia’s Garden is inspired by my Greek heritage – specifically Greek mythology.
My maternal Grandfather came from a tiny Island called Kastos, in the Ionoian Sea. He married my Nana, a New Zealander, and made NZ his home. I’ve never visited Kastos – but I will one day.
There were three Greek goddesses who were the servants of Aphrodite – the goddess of love and beauty. Algaia was the goddess of grace and beauty. Paithea was the goddess of rest and relaxation. Antheia, the third goddess, was the goddess of flowers, blossoms, vegetation and human love – and she speaks to me the most.
A bit more about me…
I create my artwork from a stand-alone studio at my home in Churton Park, Wellington. My dreams came true in 2021 when I had the studio built. I had always longed to work from home in a purpose build space. This is because a lot of my inspiration come from my home environment.
After working in a career in corporate communications and marketing for many years I turned my attention towards my true passion. Art making is where my heart lies. Proudly self-taught I have graduated from painting in a part time capacity to now working as a full-time artist. Regularly exhibiting, accepting commissions and developing my professional practice have been the positive consequence of this shift.
A bit more about my work…
My authentic mixed media style artwork focuses on the beauty of nature, and predominantly on florals.
I use mixed media techniques to develop my work. Using these techniques, I work to translate delicate blooms into vibrant and energetic pieces using a feminine colour palette. The main areas of focus for me are colour, shape and composition. It is the combination of these elements that make my work recognisable.
I enjoy sharing my process and my work in progress on my social media accounts.
