When I first had business cards printed I bravely used the title ‘artist’ under my name. Some of my friends thought this was amusing as they had only ever known me with corporate titles. I joked that I was now an artist – after all my buiness card said I was!
It has taken some time and some self awareness and self development to realise that I am an artist. In fact I’ve travelled a very unsure journey to get to this point. Anyone involved in any type of creative pursuit will know too well the feeling of knock backs and attacks on your creative self. It’s hard to bounce back from this and it’s even harder to keep going and to have a bit of resolve.
Even now I’m not sure how I am defining ‘artist’ but I know that I love creating artworks and that I am getting accepted into more shows and exhibitions and that people (people ‘out there’) are buying my paintings. It’s cool and it’s taken a mind shift to accept it and embrace it.
