This is a little odd but yellow has never never been one of my favourite colours – although I find myself constantly turning to yellow as a base colour on my canvas or reaching for a tube of yellow acrylic to highlight or lighten other colours as I work.
In this particular painting (Significant Aprons Strings) which I completed early on in 2010 I choose yellow for the skirt colour – intending to work over the top of it with blues. I never did as I thought the yellow was very country/farmhouse kitchen-ish and reminded me of a apron being used by a baker. Scones….sultana cake….pikelets with jam and cream….you get the idea.
I use Golden’s primary yellow and plough through many tubes. Luckily for me it is a series 1 colour and doesn’t cost a fortune.
