The New Zealand Art Show is fast approaching. This has been my number one personal focus (other than my family!) for the past year. And it’s nearly here…..it’s a little like waiting for Christmas when you are a child.
It’s really strange to think that something I have been preparing for and waiting to come is now just over a week away. Since attending the show last year as a general exhibitor (with my artist hat on) and as a corporate sponsor (with my corporate work hat on) I was totally inspired to be part of the action and to exhibit in a much bigger way…by having my own artist wall. This is my dream.
The submission process was brutal in terms of the preparation. I definately wanted to put my best foot forward so I hired a professional photographer to ensure my art looked as beautiful as it possibly could. Not easy as I use a very high gloss (Matisse) final varnish layer on my work and it’s quite tricky to photograph – whilst avoiding the glare. In my opinion it looks much better than a matt finish, on my work specifically, so I will persevere with it. I’ve also used a resin on some works that finishes like puddles on the canvas which I think looks super. This is even more difficult to photograph.
I submitted a disk with my art images on it to the selection panel and waited for their response…..and waited……and it was awful…and then I received an email with the words ‘congratulations’ in it!
So the New Zealand Art Show is on Friday 30th July til Sunday 1st August and it will be amazing. So much wonderful creativity under one roof and you get to talk to other artists and buyers. Last year I had such a blast chatting with other artists about their materials, style, techniques. I left there knowing that this was what I needed to do. I wanted to be part of this community!
I have a complete body of work to exhibit but am working on one final piece that I would love to have ready……lets hope the paint dries quickly!
