Yesterday I had the pleasure of enjoying a cup of coffee with two super Wellington based artists. One I knew previously from artistic gatherings , and the second being a wonderful and talented woman that I have just met.
All three of us have exhibited together at various shows at various galleries over the past year and thought that it would be a good idea to meet up – to talk about all things arty!
What a huge success the meeting was! Have to admit that it’s always a little strange to meet someone you don’t really know at a café but this was overcome by my new friends huge welcoming smile and the fact that she said that she recognised me from art events. What a massive confidence boost to be ‘recognised’ as an artist! Talk about feeling chuffed!
We talked about gallery opportunities in Wellington, about themes and subjects, about our artistic fears, about gallery commissions and hanging fees and we shared information on our favourite products and the best way to use them. It was the most valuable and enjoyable hour (and a bit!!) that I have had for a while.
It is often the norm as an artist to work in a state of near solitary confinement, so it was wonderful and uplifting to share stories with other like minded people. Such a good reminder that we can gain so much from interaction with others and that sharing brings sharing and that openness allows us to reap many rewards.
An absolutely wonderful experience my lovely new friends. Many thanks.
