I have just launched my new series of paintings – titled the ‘Celebration Series’. Woo-hoo!!!!!
Was just thinking that it’s funny how we need to give everything a title or a name – it’s like we have to classify it under a heading. Why is this? Is it for our own benefit in terms of providing a justification for what we are working on or is it to make sure that everyone else ‘gets it’? Perhaps we need our audience to understand our chosen path or to understand the change in direction. Not sure – anyway….the reasoning behind all things celebratory is the fact that I am heading for a big milestone birthday during 2012 (YIKES!!!) – so I’m getting into the spirit of things through my art.
I’m thinking of fairy lights, brightly coloured bunting (which I completely LOVE and would have hanging all over my home – inside and out – if I could!), champagne bubbles rising up a glass flute, happiness, warmth, love, family and friends. All of this is swirling, quite literally, around in my head at the moment and the best outlet seems to be through colour on canvas.
I was reading a lovely blog earlier today and the writer said that her subject matter is entirely ‘faith’ driven. Just goes to show that so many different influences direct our artistic and creative pursuits. Direction does not need to be as one dimensional as a chair, or a lamp or a piece of fruit (or though it can be if that’s what pushes your buttons), it can be a feeling or an emotion – and that’s what I completely love about original art work.
I’ve got a few specific personal art goals that I am focusing on for 2012, which I will reveal later as I develop my thoughts into a game plan, but for the minute I’m super happy to have made a start into a new artistic space. It’s all feeling very self indulgent and I am loving the feeling of painting in a new way, with new materials and with an open heart .
